Good afternoon! My name is Jon, Jonathan Sims, and it looks as if we're paired for the moment. Now, I realize for some people that they tend to view temporary assignments as a bit of a joke, but I'm not one of them so I'll get right into it:

Is there anything you need at the moment?

Are you interested in meeting?

Oh! And did you have any interest in going off ship and perhaps helping me to look at what books, book maintenance supplies, and media might be available here?

[Quite frankly, he'd give a lot to get off the ship by now, and he's very willing to engage as a result. So he'll just plain show up.]

Octavius is presented with a relatively neat office, though there is a tendency towards stacks here and there, that has a number of dog toys and a dog bed in plain view. There's also a large tank in one corner filled entirely with sand that has a well-placed sign noting 'please do not stick your hand in the sand: sand worm habitat'. Jon himself is behind his desk, a small stack of tape recorders on one side and if he's read back on the network at all for research, he'll notice one big difference with his warden vs the man in all those messages: this one is not covered in scars. Instead, he holds a bright, almost dog-like spark in his eyes as he stands up. ]

Books, primarily. And book maintenance supplies, as I said. Not to mention games... I doubt music or movies will be available here but we can certain look; sometimes, these kinds of worlds can be surprising.

[ His eyebrows waggle. ]

You would be Otto?

[Getting off the damned boat is...a priority. One he's willing to admit to if it means getting off of it faster. One of the arms very carefully begins scanning that tank, showing far too much interest in an unknown creature.]

[And oh, God, the man is keen. He sighs.]

For my sins, yes.

Yo dude. Apologies. I should've contacted you right after the Admiral announced the pairings but...well, to be honest, I've been pretty much constantly drunk for the last few days. Not sure why. [Really, Nick? You haven't noticed what the bugs are doing?]

Anyway, I'm your temp warden. You know how that works so I won't bore both of us going into the details. Feel free to give me a shout if you want or need anything.

Depends on two things. First--what do you want them for? And since I'm no science whiz, let's keep it simple as in are you planning to build a weapon or something that is not a weapon?

I have weapons strapped to me on a permanent basis, weapons aren't what they're cracked up to be.

No, minor construction projects. Occupational therapy. Servos, circuitry, wiring. The things I can't make myself.

[He'd be a little more surprised that his warden is a gargoyle, save the location he's in.]

Yes - I've a list of component pieces I require...mostly wiring, some metal plating, circuitry and the like. Working on a replacement leg, and a few other small projects. Occupational therapy.

[A pause.]

Some cigars would be nice. Dominican, for preference. It's been a while.

[Brooklyn himself is not the tech guy, but he's spent enough time around several examples of the phenomenon, including one of his very few remaining rookery brothers, to be unperturbed by the request. Science stuff. Cool.

He has less knowledge of cigars or what might make them good or otherwise.]

Well, gimme the list and that's probably fine. Is the replacement leg, uh, especially urgent?

I'll send it over. And he's not bleeding out on the deck or anything, but if needs some specialized work if it's going to work properly.

Oh, and feel free to take some of the cigars for yourself. Quality deserves to be shared.

[ Zerxus was still in port when the announcement went up, but he's not too far off; he'd wandered into the dockside ring both to probe into the black market and to lend some healing where it was probably needed most. He finds a dim alley that will offer some privacy before sending a message. ]

Doctor Octavius? This is Zerxus, I'm your warden for the month.

[ The shadows do nothing to hide his horns, but that's for the best; it's better to get that out of the way remotely. ]

The evening after the pairings go up, B comes by Otto's usual chess board with some of Steve's usual cookies wrapped in a napkin. He probably still has a sign up, feel free to pick one. "Hey, man. How're the games going? Had any good competition lately?"

"Some," he replies, looking askance at the cookies. "The competition here is...extremely varied."

B laughs. "That sounds like a very polite way of saying some people are just really bad." He unwraps said cookies a little and offers Otto one. "For you. Steve bakes pretty much every day, and I can't eat them all." Well, technically he could, but that doesn't mean he should.
